Genius: How One Philly Running Coach Did Indoor Hill Sprints Today — Without a Treadmill
Fix Your Run’s John Goldthorp had a pretty brilliant idea today: Since braving snow-covered sidewalks seemed, er, rather unappealing, he took his regularly scheduled hill workout indoors — to an underground parking garage.
Pictured below is a ramp in the underground parking garage at the Curtis Center, accessible via Sansom Street between 6th and 7th. “I actually ran three miles on the treadmill at Optimal Sport Health Club,” he told me in an email. “Then I went downstairs to the garage and did the sprints, then hopped back on the treadmill to finish my mileage.”
So it’s true: Necessity is indeed the mother of invention.
