Will 1316 Walnut Street Be Denise Cohen’s New Lesbian Bar?
Over the summer, we reported on what appeared to be failed plans for Denise Cohen, the former manager of now-shuttered Sisters Nightclub, to open a new lesbian bar. Her Indiegogo campaign to raise funds didn’t work out as planned, as she netted a mere 15% of her targeted goal.
However, G Philly has obtained a copy of an application for a liquor license at 1316 Walnut Street, at the old Hokkaido restaurant. The name on the license is none other than Denise Cohen’s.
This space would make a lot of sense, given Ms. Cohen’s previous comments to our own Josh Middleton over the summer about a space she was eyeing up for the bar: “It’s within the area of the Gayborhood. It’s a good location, with room to allow us to do many different things — food, dancing, entertainment — but it won’t be as large as Sisters.”
Ms. Cohen was not available for immediate comment. Stay tuned to G Philly for more updates.
