Nutter Appoints Board to Make Philly a Better Biking City
A few months ago, we told you guys the awesome news that Philly is in the lead when it comes to bike commuting in big cities (go us!). And now for some more great biking news: In an effort to increase biking in Philly, Mayor Nutter has created the Philadelphia Bicycle Advocacy Board, a group of folks whose job is to push for a more bike friendly city, even after Nutter is out of office, NBC 10 reports.
The board—made up of people like Alex Doty of the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia, Joseph Wentzell of Rittenhouse’s Breakaway Bikes, Olympic gold medalist track cyclist Marty Nothstein, and more—will advise the mayor on bike and cyclist-related public policies, bring more national and international cycling races to Philly, encourage employers to support bike commuting (YES!), and, in short, work to make the bike scene in Philly bigger and better than it already is. Because, as Nutter told NBC 10, “Bicycling is a fundamental aspect of a city’s mobility, economic development, public health and environmental sustainability.” Hear, hear.
