Injury Updates On Kendricks, Ryans
It seemed like a positive sign for the Eagles Tuesday when Mychal Kendricks exchanged his baseball cap for a helmet and took part in the portion of practice open to the media.
But afterwards, DeMeco Ryans poured a bit of cold water on the possibility that Kendricks might return against the Giants.
“He didn’t do anything,” Ryans said. “He just wore his helmet today. That’s it. He surprised me. I saw him in his helmet, I said, ‘Hey man, what are you about to do?’ But he just warmed up with the team.”
Kendricks has been sidelined for the past three games after suffering a calf strain against the Colts in Week 2. Pat Shurmur said he remains as day-to-day.
The Eagles could certainly use him, especially with Ryans’ status in question. Ryans suffered a groin strain against the Rams and did not participate in practice Tuesday.
“I’m feeling pretty good, progressing pretty good over the past couple days,” Ryans said. “So it’s a positive outlook for the game.”
Ryans suffered the injury in the third quarter. He said he made a tackle, and a Rams offensive lineman hit him down low.
“I kept playing, but I saw that I wasn’t gonna be effective, so I didn’t want to hurt the team,” Ryans said. “So I just took myself out.”
From what Ryans said, it sounded like he should be ready to play Sunday, but Kendricks is unlikely to suit up.
If neither can go, the likely starters inside would be Casey Matthews and Emmanuel Acho, with Marcus Smith II rotating in. The Eagles would almost definitely have to make a roster move to add depth if Ryans and Kendricks were sidelined.
In other injury news, Chris Polk missed practice with a hamstring issue.
