Judge: Email Scandal Could Spread to Judiciary
Chief Justice Ronald Castille wants to know if Pennsylvania judges were among the officials who exchanged racy emails with other state government officials. He’s asking Attorney General Kathleen Kane to name any judges who might have participated in the burgeoning scandal.
Newsworks reports: ” Castille said Monday that exchanging such material with government lawyers who appeared before them could represent a conflict of interest for a judge, in addition to being an ethics violation.
“A conflict-of-interest finding could open up a new avenue of appeal in previously decided cases, Castille said.”
Kane has named a number of top officials as being touched by the scandal, including Police Commissioner Frank Noonan and Environmental Protection Secretary Christopher Abruzzo.
