Explore Philly’s Urban Farms on Your Bike This Weekend

Weavers Way Co-op’s ninth annual Urban Farm Bike Ride returns this weekend, with two-wheeled tours of several farms in city limits.
It kicks off at Philadelphia Brewing Company this Saturday at 8 a.m. There are two rides to choose from: a flatter (read: easier) 23-mile tour visiting farms from Kensington to South Philly, and a more strenuous (read: hilly) 22-mile ride stopping at farms from West and Northwest Philadelphia. Despite the fact that, mile-wise, the first ride is actually longer, it’s considered the “shorter ride” because it will take less time to complete, given how flat the route is. The second “longer” ride will also stop at more farms, hence lengthening the trip.
Whichever route you choose, the rides give you the opportunity to explore new neighborhoods and participate in discussions with urban farmers. Rides will get snacks and water along the way, as well as beer and pizza at the end. You’ll also get a t-shirt.
It’s $45 if you sign up in advance, for $50 day-of. Proceeds benefit the farm education programs at Weavers Way Community Programs. Registration and more info are here.
