New Hot Yoga Studio Opening in Fairmount
Priya Hot Yoga is about to become new kid on the block, as far as Philly yoga studios are concerned. The hot yoga studio is set to open next month at 1828 Callowhill Street in Fairmount, just around the corner from Whole Foods Market.
“There’s a lot of great energy in that neighborhood,” says co-owner Katie Sandy. “I think it’s just a very positive neighborhood, and we thought it could use something like this.”
Sandy and her two business partners, Eve D’Onofrio and Kristen King, are all yoga enthusiasts and wanted to bring a yoga studio centered on community to the Fairmount area. To wit: In addition to practice space, Priya will have a front-of-house cafe with packaged snacks and drinks from Pure Fare, Down Dog Healing Cafe, and Inspired Brews kombucha. They’ll have space for lounging before and after class, and a sit-and-eat bar with stools along the front windows.
The 2,200-square-foot space was the former home of the Children’s Crisis Treatment Center. The space is being almost completely gutted to turn it into a functional yoga studio, with new floors, walls and heating system to keep the practice room at a toasty 95 degrees.
Priya will begin with a schedule of 20 classes a week, Monday through Sunday, all of which will be hot vinyasa. Eventually, Sandy says, they’ll offer other styles of yoga, along with family-friendly classes. They will also have a room in the back for treatments like reiki and massage, which will also be used for—wait for it, moms and dads—babysitting. At launch, they will offer childcare during the Monday, Wednesday and Friday morning classes from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m.
Speaking of launch, they’re aiming to open on October 25th, if all goes according to schedule. Teachers on the roster include Justine Bacon (you might know her from Philly Yoga Factory); Liz Rule, who also teaches at Sweat and Maha Yoga; and Hannah Schofield, who you might catch at Power Yoga Works; among others.
The studio’s website is currently under construction, but will be fully up and running in the next few weeks. You can also keep up with them on Facebook at here.
