The Taney Dragons Now Have Their Very Own Week
Did you know it’s Taney Dragons week? That’s right: Because the Taney Dragons run to the Little League World Series happened while legislators were on vacation, only now — when they’ve returned to work in September — are we getting resolutions honoring Philadelphia’s favorite little kid athletes.
State Rep. Brian Sims received unanimous approval for a resolution declaring the week of September 14th to September 20th Taney Dragons Week in the state of Pennsylvania. Do other cities’ baseball teams have to bow in recognition of Taney’s superiority? Let’s hope so.
“I’m proud that this team is based in my district, that the entire city adopted them as its own, and that as the Little League Pennsylvania champions, the Taney Dragons have made all of Pennsylvania proud,” Brian Sims said in a statement. “We all should feel proud with Taney’s Mo’ne Davis appearance on the cover of Sports Illustrated.”
House Resolution 1016 notes the “Taney Dragons team brought together people from across this Commonwealth, some of whom rooted for the team in Williamsport, while others gathered at Philadelphia City Hall to watch the team’s performance on big screens, and nationwide interest in the series broke ratings records for the ESPN sports channel.”
