PW Reader Ring: Angela & Rob!

Angela's ring!

Angela’s ring!

The couple: Angela Sciumbata and Rob Cairns, from Reading.

The ring: My ring is 14-karat white gold with a center stone of Morganite, with diamonds going down either side of the band and two of them directly underneath the center stone.

It was custom-designed by Rob with the help of Belden’s Jewelers—I only helped select my center stone! I knew Morganite was the stone I wanted because of its rarity and beauty, and because the meaning behind the stone is love.

The proposal: Rob proposed in Love Park under the Love sign, which is one of my favorite spots in Philly. I had no idea he was going to propose. That day in particular we were going to pick my brother up from college at the University of the Arts, and Rob promised we would get a picture under the Love wign with all the Christmas lights that were up for the holidays.

With my brother and sister, we stood in a long line waiting for our turn to take a picture. When we finally got up there, we stood under the sign waiting for my brother and sister to snap a picture, and Rob turned to me and the speech began. I remember bits and pieces of what he was saying—that the past seven years have been the best of his life and that he loves me and wanted to spend the rest of his life with me—and then I saw his eyes begin to tear up, so I knew that moment was it!

Every word from then on was a blur until he dropped to his knee holding the box, and asked, “Will you marry me?” I could hear strangers whispering in excitement, “He is going to propose!” and afterwards, a lot of them clapped and congratulated us.  I was so surprised when I saw my ring—it is perfect and more beautiful than I could have ever imagined. HE worked so hard on everything being perfect and it sure went beyond my expectations—the ring, the proposal, and having my brother and sister there to record video and take pictures. It was all amazing.

The band: I’m not sure about my band, but I’m thinking about a two-toned band with diamonds or a diamond band. I think it’ll be hard because my ring is so bold on its own that the band will have to be the perfect match.
