Beast & Ale Opens Tonight in Manayunk
Chef Timothy Spinner and Brian Sirhal who own the Feliz Restaurants (Cantina Feliz, La Calaca Feliz and Taqueria Feliz) are opening their first non-Mexican concept. Beast & Ale, an “updated greasy spoon” at 4161 Main Street in Manayunk is opening today.
Beast & Ale is taking over the former Gemelli/Bisou. The bi-level spot has a full bar and two-floor dining room that includes a second floor deck.
The menu showcases updated diner classics including a “Beast Burger,” a thin griddled double-patty burger topped with melted American cheese on a soft bun. Other hearty menu items include:
- Buttermilk-Soaked Fried Chicken served with Creamy Polenta
- Braised Escarole and House Gravy
- Fried Bologna Sandwich
- Fried mushrooms and green beans
- Hand-cut fries topped with beer cheese and gravy
The menu is a collaboration between chef Spinner and chef Matthew Savastano, who was formerly sous chef at La Calaca Feliz and will serve as Executive Chef at Beast & Ale.
The drink list at Beast & Ale includes a rotating selection of eight draft beer including a Forest & Main beer on a hand-pump plus long list of bottled and canned crafts. The wine list includes old and new world wines, all available by the glass. A selection of whiskeys, ryes, bourbons and scotches are available by the glass or flight.
The space has a retro feel that’s part hunting lodge and part greasy spoon. A bar takes up the first floor with seating on the mezzanine second floor. Also on the second floor is a deck that offers outdoor seating for 28.
Weekend brunch will start soon and happy hour is available weekdays from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 pm. and on Fridays and Saturdays from 11 p.m. to midnight.
