Riley Cooper In Walking Boot
Riley Cooper was wearing a boot on his right foot when spotted outside of the NovaCare Complex Friday.
“He’s got a foot injury. It’s just a preventative thing,” said Chip Kelly. “He should be back in a couple days.”
Cooper has been sidelined since Monday with the foot ailment.
Kelly sounds optimistic that this is a short-term deal, but it does make you think about the receiver depth on this team. Kelly was asked how he feels about his reserves.
“I never get involved with what’s our depth here, what’s our depth there,” said Kelly. “I think the biggest decision we’re doing right now is making evaluations of who is going to make the team. We have 12 or 13 of those guys and at some point we’re going to have to cut down to five or six depending on how we juggle the roster with the 53-man roster and then how many guys get onto the practice squad.
“If a guy gets hurt, a guy gets hurt. You can say that about any position on our football team or any other team in the National Football League. If we were to lose LeSean McCoy than we’re down at the running back spot but if not, we feel really good about our depth.”
Jeff Maehl has gotten the bulk of the reps with the ones on the outside in Cooper’s absence. Strangely enough, though, Maehl also had a boot on his right foot Friday and was a spectator at practice.
In other news, Earl Wolff is expected to be full-go after sitting team drills out yesterday. Kelly said Wolff was sore on Thursday, but did not reveal what area of the body.
Jake Knott did not practice Friday. He was wearing a sleeve on his right leg. Chris Polk (hamstring) and Julian Vandervelde (back) were also sidelined.
