Headhouse Farmers’ Market Starts This Sunday
This Sunday marks the kick off the 2011 Headhouse Farmers’ Market. In its fifth season, the market situated under the shambles at Headhouse Square the market is the city’s largest open-air farmers’ market.
This season the market boasts 36 local farmers and artisinal producers. New vendors include Root Mass Farm from Oley, PA, and local wine makers Paradocx Vineyards and Penns Woods Winery. Those new vendors will join the likes of Birchrun Hills, Garces Trading Co., Griggstown Quail Farm, John & Kira’s, Market Day Canele, Ric’s Breads, Talula’s Table and Weavers Way Farm.
The vendors will also be bolstered by Los Taquitos de Puebla and Renaissance Sausage.
The market runs weekly on Sundays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Headhouse Farmers’ Market is part of the The Food Trust’s network of more than two dozen farmers’ markets, which serves more than 125,000 customers in Philadelphia, helps sustain regional farms and accepts food stamps – all part of The Food Trust’s mission to ensure that everyone has access to affordable, nutritious food.
The Food Trust has partnered with the Philadelphia Department of Public Health’s Get Healthy Philly initiative to open six new farmers’ markets during the 2011 season.
