70 MPH Speed Limits Coming to PA
PennLive reports that higher speed limits are coming to some state highways this summer:
When Gov. Tom Corbett signed the transportation funding bill last fall, he authorized boosting the maximum speed limit to 70 mph on certain highways, where it seems feasible and safe.
Pennsylvania Turnpike spokeswoman Renee Colburn said the higher speed limit likely will appear initially only on short stretches of the turnpike.
“Right now, we’re still working with PennDOT,” she said. “We’re not ready to say exact locations yet.”
The highest speed limit on Pennsylvania highways has been 65 mph since 1995, when Congress repealed the 55 mph limit.
