Nutter May Order Hike in Minimum Wage

Would apply only to city contracts and subcontracts.

Mayor Nutter is expected to sign an executive order today, the Inquirer reports, that would raise the minimum wage for private company employees working on city contract and subcontract jobs. The amount of the new minimum wasn’t known. The city already has a requirement that contractors pay a “living wage” of $10.88 an hour — 150 percent of the minimum wage; subcontractors at the Philadelphia International Airport earn an average of $7.88 an hour.
