Where to Find the Super Cool Nike Free FlyKnits in Philly
Last Thursday, Nike pleased sneaker aficionados everywhere with the release of its Free FlyKnit sneakers. A beyond-cool sneaker that combines the best of many worlds—i.e. technological advancement, comfort, design—the shoe has a knitted feels-like-socks top half and the ever-so-popular Nike Free sneaker base, for the latest push in minimalist running. Watch the creative director of running for Nike explain the sleek design here.
These shoes are also great for people into sustainability, since FlyKnits are made out of all recycled polyester/PET bottles (except for a bit of foam in the mid sole). They’re also light as feathers and made out of breathable woven fibers.
So where can you score these babies, which run for $160 a pop? Philadelphia Runner (at all three of their locations) and City Sports on Walnut Street and in Wayne are fully stocked right now in multiple colors for both men and women. None of Bryn Mawr Running Company locations have them, and Fairmount Running Company doesn’t have them, either. Of course, there are online vendors, too, but fair warning: These shoes are meant to fit quite literally like a sock, so trying them on in store is crucial.
And lest you think the FlyKnits are only a big deal here in the States, Nike is pulling out all the stops to market the heck out of these things internationally. To wit: In Shanghai, they have a giant billboard with people “live knitting” a bare foot. Seriously. Just look.
