Eagles Sign Maclin To One-Year Deal

Cross another one off the list.

The Eagles and Jeremy Maclin have come to terms on a one-year deal, the team announced. According to Mike Garafolo, the contract is worth up to $6 million with more than $3 million guaranteed.

“I’m excited to see Jeremy play in our offense,” said Chip Kelly in a statement. “You saw the potential of that in the spring and summer but obviously he didn’t get an opportunity last year. However, what was great to see was how he was literally here every single day since being injured. You can see he has a passion for the game of football. When he was on the field last spring and summer, you saw his intelligence, you saw his great route-running ability and you saw how tough of a one-on-one match-up he could be.”

Maclin tore the ACL in his right knee back in July and missed the entire season. If he had remained healthy and thrived under Kelly as most expected him to, he would have been in line for a pretty big pay day in free agency. Instead of taking a multi-year deal at a discounted rate, Maclin decided to bet on himself and set his sights on a one-year “prove-it” deal.

He made it clear that his desire was to remain in Philadelphia.

“Jeremy is an ideal player for our scheme with his combination of size, speed, strength and route-running ability, in addition to his dynamic playmaking talent,” said Howie Roseman. “We’re happy to see him rehabbing well and to get him under contract for the 2014 season.”

The former first-round pick had 69 receptions for 857 yards with seven touchdowns in 2012.
