The Farm and Fisherman Tavern & Market opens Saturday, November 23rd at 1442 East Route 70 in Cherry Hill. It is the second restaurant for Josh Lawler who owns the just-bigger-than-a-shoebox BYOB, The Farm and Fisherman at 1120 Pine Street. The Cherry Hill location will be significantly larger with a 150-seat tavern plus a full market.

Lawler and co-owner Todd Fuller (Treno, Tangerine) are operating a restaurant, bar and grocer specializing in regional and seasonal fare. Lawler says “Todd and I both live in this neighborhood with our families and saw the need for a family-friendly, food-driven place to eat – whether for an anniversary celebration or a simple night out with the kids.”

The Market

The Market will be open throughout the day, offering coffee, seasonal scones, bacon-egg foccacia and whole grain and fruit bars in the mornings to entrees and sides for lunch, including grab-and-go salads and sandwiches. Highlights include; Wyebrook Farm grass-fed burger, a corned beef on smoked pepper rye and a seasonally rotating chopped salad.

For dinner, the chefs are offering homemade soups, sauces and family-style meals consisting of an entree, vegetable side dish, salad and simple dessert. All offerings will change with the seasons.

In addition to the prepared offerings, the market will offer local meats and fish, butchered by hand, fair trade coffees and fresh produce.

A variety of craft beers, both in cans and bottles and on draught for growlers will be available for purchase. A curated selection of wines will also be available, chosen specifically to complement the food.

The Tavern

The Tavern will offer a 150-seat bar and restaurant that spills out into the Market, serving Lawler and Fuller’s menu throughout the day. Expect small plates, snacks, entrees and family-style meals complemented by an always-changing assortment of local craft beers, small-production wines and classic cocktails.

Highlights of the The Farm and Fisherman Tavern & Market menu will include:

  • Local Chicken baked in hay
  • Bloody Beet Salad, a riff on Lawler’s best-known dish at The Farm & Fisherman
  • Crispy NJ Spuds with heritage bacon and local cheese fondue
  • Barnegat Scallops with winter squash and pumpkin seed vinaigrette

The market and tavern will offer many of the same ingredients. A beer on the Tavern’s menu will be available to go via a growler. The bread from a sandwich on the lunch menu will be available as a loaf in the Market.

The Tavern & Market will be open daily from 5 p.m. until late night. Lunch will be offered in three to four weeks from the opening, with breakfast coming in early 2014.
