Today is New Jersey’s Senate Election. Finally.

Finally, after months and weeks of talking, today is the special election in New Jersey to replace the late U.S. Sen. Frank Lautenberg. In this corner, we have Republican Steve Lonegan, and in this corner we have Democrat and social media superstar Cory Booker. And while the race appeared to tighten in recent weeks, it still appears to be Booker’s to lose.

CNN: “A Quinnipiac University survey released Tuesday morning indicates Booker, the Democratic nominee, is ahead of Lonegan 54%-40% among likely voters in the Garden State, with 5% unsure. Booker’s 14-point lead over Lonegan is virtually unchanged from Quinnipiac’s previous poll, which was released last week.”

The race may have broader implications. USA Today: “The special election for the unexpired term of the late U.S. Sen. Frank Lautenberg is Wednesday. From the start, Republican nominee Steve Lonegan has said the campaign will be about about President Barack Obama and, primarily, an expression of dissatisfaction with his health care law. … In recent weeks, Democratic nominee Cory Booker has taken to framing the race as a referendum on national politics as well — though the Newark mayor says it’s a chance for people to reject the approach to governing in Washington that led to a partial federal shutdown now entering its third week.”
