WATCH: Madonna Reveals Eerie 17-Minute ‘Secret Project’
This morning at midnight, Madonna debuted her long-awaited “secretprojectrevolution” via a 17-minute short film that introduces a movement to promote freedom of expression called “Art for Freedom.”
The video is pretty sexy, a Gothic, black-and-white work that finds the pop star being thrown in jail for her lascivious behaviors. Her haunting narration is blended with images of shirtless contortionist dancers, and flashbacks of her banging up a room in a shiny leather number that recalls Cat Woman. That’s when the introduction to “Art for Freedom” begins:
“I still want to start a revolution,” she says. “Somebody’s got to. There’s too much beauty in the world going to waste; too much talent going unnoticed; too much creativity being crushed between the wheel of corporate branding and what’s trending.But it’s time to wake up before it’s too late. History’s repeating itself. Don’t you see a pattern here? We live in a very scary world, or should I say we don’t really exist at all.”
The rest is a roll call of what it means to have freedom of expression that’s interspersed with bizarre imagery — soldiers with guns, masked dancers, burning baby carriages and even Madge singing a sinister rendition of of “My Country, ‘Tis Of Thee.” Some people will love it, some will say it’s classic pompous Madonna and some just may run screaming because it scares them to death.
