James Casey Sidelined Following Knee Surgery

Eagles tight end James Casey underwent arthroscopic knee surgery earlier this week and is out for the remainder of the spring, the team confirmed.

The procedure was done to clean out loose cartilage in his right knee. Casey should be ready for training camp.

Mike Garafolo was first with the news.

This helps explain why the the Eagles recently signed tight end Will Shaw, who took the roster spot of running back Miguel Maysonet.

The 28-year-old Casey signed a three-year, $12 million contract with the Eagles this offseason after four seasons with the Texans. He had 34 receptions for 330 yards and three touchdowns last year for Houston.

The Eagles are also currently without rookie tight end Zach Ertz, who cannot practice with the team until he graduates from Stanford next month.
