Andy Reid’s Son, Garrett, Found Dead

Andy Reid’s son, Garrett, was found dead at training camp, Howie Roseman announced Sunday morning.

He was 29-years-old.

“It is a tough morning  for all of us in the Eagles family,” said a shaken Roseman. “Garrett grew up with this team, and this makes this news even harder to process. Our hearts go out to Andy, Tammy, Britt, Spencer, Crosby and Drew Ann. Coach has spent the morning informing his family. We ask sincerely that you respect the family’s privacy during this time. The team has been informed of this news, as has Jeffrey and Christina [Lurie].”

Lehigh University chief of police Edward Shupp said a 9-1-1 call was placed at 7:20 Sunday morning from Sayre Park dormitories. Garrett Reid was deceased upon the officer’s arrival.

Shupp said no suspicious activity is suspected at this time. No cause of death has been reported.

Coroner Zachary Lysek said his office was contacted by the Lehigh campus police department and requested to respond to the discovery of a deceased male. The investigation into Garrett Reid’s death will be ongoing, Lysek said.

“This news is heartbreaking for everyone in the Eagles family. Our hearts go out to Andy, his wife, Tammy, and their children,” said Jeffrey Lurie in a statement.

Lurie will not be delivering his previously scheduled team address Sunday afternoon.

The team gathered on one of the practice fields at the beginning of this morning’s practice session and knelt down in prayer.

“From a football perspective I can tell you that Andy has asked that we go forward with training camp,” said Roseman. “On a personal note, we’ve been with Andy for a long time. He has always been strong for us; we’re going to be strong for him right now. As a father and friend, we are all hurting.”

With that, Roseman left the podium and embraced head trainer Rick Burkholder, overtaken with emotion.

No players or coaches talked to the media, but safety Kurt Coleman put the following Tweet out before practice:

“Prayers and condolences go out. May God protect us and serve us in this time of need.”

Garrett Reid had been working with the Eagles strength and conditioning department, a team spokesman said.

The team has not made a decision on whether it will hold practice Sunday afternoon. Offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg and defensive coordinator Juan Castillo will oversee the team until Reid returns.
