This week’s adoptable running pup is a sweet guy who wants to be your only guy. Street Tails Animal Rescue is looking to home Ziggy with a family that will make him their only pet (hey, we can all relate to wanted undivided attention, right?). Learn more about this fluffy-coated guy below!

Name: Ziggy

Age: Approximately 7 years old

Breed: Herding dog mix

Size: Large breed dog

Reason for surrender to shelter: Ziggy was surrendered by his heartbroken family of many years after they came to the determination that he would live a fuller and happier life in a home with no other animals.

Running style: Ziggy runs at a more casual speed and finished a recent two-mile run with a Monster Miler volunteer at about a 10:30 pace. He is gentle on the leash, and doesn’t require much redirection during your run. If you slow down significantly, he glances back to check on you like the true gentleman he is, then he slows down to match your stride. If you stop, he comes to a calm halt and turns back as if to say “What’s going on back there?” The Monster Miler volunteers hope to continue to run with Ziggy while he waits for a new home, and plan to see if he is willing and able to go for longer distances. His thick and soft coat will certainly allow him to enjoy cool weather runs, so it’s the perfect time to consider adopting him!

Why Ziggy could be the right dog for you: Ziggy has an incredibly sweet disposition. He is shy around new people and isn’t quite used to all of the sights and sounds of city life just yet, but once he adjusts to his surroundings and becomes comfortable with those around him he is very affectionate and loving. He is calm and mild-mannered and behaves like a true gentleman when interacting with people. He will gently approach you for attention, and will hang by your side silently observing and enjoying the simplicity of your presence and attention. He is already used to living in a home, so he knows the appropriate place to potty is outside, and knows quite a few other basic commands. Ziggy wants your undivided attention, and will need to be the only animal in the home. He has soft and wise brown eyes, and a lovely and smooth, white and brindle long-haired coat. Please call or email Street Tails Animal Rescue for more information on Ziggy.

…………….

We work with The Monster Milers each and every week to profile local running dogs waiting to be adopted. The Monster Milers are a group of runners who help shelter dogs burn off energy and get much-needed exercise by taking them on runs around the city, and they also just launched their first-of-it’s-kind Adopt a Running Buddy foster program. If you’re not in the market for a pup right now, but would still love to help out homeless dogs, you can always become a Monster Miler volunteer or foster parent. Find out more about how to get started with those processes here.
