Happy Snow Day Everyone!
I know, I know… Everyone was predicting a Snowpocalypse today and what we got was just a little bit of snow, in February, which is when snow is supposed to fall.
But still, it has been the only real snow we’ve gotten this year, and everyone kinda wanted this to be a bigger deal than it was, so I get it. People are looking for an excuse to celebrate and we here at Foobooz World HQ are squarely in favor of that sort of thing, so here’s what some of the bars and restaurants around town are doing to make your snow day a little less cold, a little more drinky and a lot more fun.
First, there’s Garces, whose restaurants have gone all-in on this snow day business. There’s something happening at just about every local restaurant in the empire. Here’s the basics.
24
$5 Farinata
$5 House wine by the glass
Amada Philly
$5 Red or White Sangria
$5 Baked Goat Cheese
Distrito NJ
$5 vegetable nachos
$5 traditional margaritas
Distrito Philly
$5 Feliz Margarita
$5 Veggie Nachos
Garces Trading Company
$5 Sangria
$5 happy hour snacks
JG Domestic
$5 House Wine
$4 Beer
The Olde Bar
$5 fish house punch
$5 cape cod mussel in a white wine broth
Tinto
$5 tapas extended for whole night at the bar
$6 “Spanish Spiked Cider”
Village Whiskey
$8″Bartender’s Choice” Boilermaker. Shot+beer
½ Price Bar snacks all night
Volver
$5 select drafts
The takeaway here? You should be going to Olde Bar for Fish House Punch and mussels, Village Whiskey for snacks and boilermakers, and maybe Tinto for tapas. As for Distrito? The margaritas are a good deal, but veggie nachos? Really? That’s no way to celebrate a snow day.
Elsewhere around town, we’ve got some more deals. City Tap House (both locations) are offering $4 New Belgium Accumulation White IPAs and $6 spiked hot chocolates on any day we get more than three inches of snow (uh…) or on any day that Philly schools are closed (which means today qualifies). Devil’s Den has $1 off Ommegang Witte, Yards Pale Ale and Yards Brawler drafts.
Red Owl Tavern is offering half-off their Tavern burgers today, with bacon, onion marmalade and herb spread. Square 1682 has $5 Hot Toddies, $10 Square 1682 Burgers and $10 chipotle black bean burgers during every snow day this winter. Bluebird Distilling is offering half-off one specialty cocktail at the bar.
And Skygarten is doing half-off both virgin and spiked hot chocolates every time the snow sticks for the rest of the winter. Normally the hot chocolates will run you $5 and $10 respectively, and the spiked versions include includes Bourbon Cream, Fireball or Peppermint Schnapps, topped with marshmallows or whipped cream.
Oh, and here’s maybe the biggest snow day news. Been thinking about going to Laurel? Haven’t been able to get a reservation? Maybe tonight is your night.
