Original Story

Eagles head coach Doug Pederson ruled out two players in advance of Philadelphia’s Week 9 game against the New York Giants. Starting left guard Allen Barbre and special teams linebacker Kamu Grugier-Hill will not play on Sunday.

Barbre suffered a hamstring injury during the Eagles-Cowboys game on Sunday night. Starting in his place will be veteran offensive lineman Stefen Wisniewski. Rookie third-round pick Isaac Seumalo will be active for the first time all season this week. Pederson said Seumalo is the top backup at both guard positions while Wisniewski would shift to center if something happened to Jason Kelce.

Eagles defensive tackles Bennie Logan and Taylor Hart will be limited in practice on Friday. Pederson said both players will be game-time decisions. Howard Eskin reports Logan is unlikely to return this week. If neither Logan nor Hart can suit up this week, the Birds will once again play with three defensive tackles. Fletcher Cox and Beau Allen will start with undrafted rookie Destiny Vaeao working in as a backup.

The sudden release of Josh Huff has opened up playing time at wide receiver. According to Pederson, rookie pass catcher Bryce Treggs will be active, as expected. Interestingly enough, Pederson noted the plan was to have Treggs active this week even if Huff was still on the active roster.

“Treggs will take a majority of [Huff’s snaps],” said Pederson. “We’ve talked about Treggs in the past and what his learning curve is and what he can handle. He’s done a great job this week. He’ll be ready to go in a fill in situation there. The rest of [Huff’s snaps] will get divided. Darren [Sproles], the tight ends become a little more important now. It’ll be good.”

Pederson did note Treggs’ role will be limited.

“The thing with Treggs, obviously the speed. He catches the ball well. He’s a smooth route-runner. Plus, too, he’s young and he hasn’t played for us so teams really don’t know much about him. Much like it was with [Dorial Green-Beckham], keep it limited, keep the package small, give him a few plays here and there, and see what he can go.”

As of this posting, the Eagles still only have 52 players on their active roster following the release of Huff. Howie Roseman said the team will make a signing prior to the Eagles’ game against the Giants this Sunday. Pederson made it sound like rookie fan-favorite receiver Paul Turner won’t be promoted from the practice squad, however.

“Potentially,” said Pederson when asked if Turner could be called up to replace Huff’s roster spot. “Right now, immediate future, probably not. With what he’s doing in practice and what he did in the preseason, there’s a chance that that could happen.”
