The incident occurred just after 3 a.m. on Monday morning. The suspect removed a brass railing from the Broad Street side of the Union League and caused serious damage to the Union League stairs in the process.

These photos by Philly Mag reporter Dan McQuade illustrate just how much damage was done:

A Union League spokesperson told McQuade that the property will be repaired “as soon as possible.”

Police describe the suspect as follows: “Black male, 40-50 years-of-age, thin build, wearing a dark hooded jacket, and blue jeans.” Investigators say he was last seen walking west on Sansom Street from 15th Street.

Anyone with information on the crime is asked to call Detective Murphy at 215-686-3093.
