Is Snap Kitchen Opening a Fishtown Outpost?
This morning, after succumbing to the call of La Colombe en route to the El, I walked by 1325 Frankford Avenue, a Fishtown storefront that used to house the coffee shop The Lola Bean and was most recently occupied by the pop-up plant shop Field. Field, the most San Francisco-y, succulent-filled shop one would ever find in Philadelphia, just vacated the space last week, and as I walked by this morning, I was surprised — and excited! — to see a Snap Kitchen sign taped inside the storefront’s door.
While Snap Kitchen’s commissary is located in Kensington, we hadn’t heard any rumblings of the healthy grab-and-go spot — which has opened an impressive six Philly-area storefronts in the past year — making its way to Frankford Avenue anytime soon. But if the numerous taped-on signs of branding are any indication (along with the sign on the front door, there’s also a paper sign that says “Snap Kitchen” taped to a window), that’s their next stop. And the space, which is on the small side, and essentially just a rectangular room, is a fit for the usual layout of their cold case-lined shops.
We’ve reached out to Snap Kitchen to confirm whether or not they’re headed to Fishtown, so we will keep you updated on whether Frankford Avenue will truly soon be blessed with the magic that is the shop’s Spicy Basil Lemonade. Stay tuned!
UPDATE 8/18 at 12:20 p.m.: The folks at Snap Kitchen have gotten back to us with a tad bit more info on the Fishtown store happenings. As Northeast marketing manager Beth Lawrence tells us, “Fishtown has been on our radar since we opened our doors in Philly. We are in the final stages of confirming our shop location and look forward to bringing Snap Kitchen to the people who live and work in the neighborhood later this year.”
