2,000 Doctors, Nurses and Support Staff Will Be Sleeping at Penn Medicine Hospitals During Pope Visit
A lot of people have wondered what measures local hospitals will be taking to ensure they’re well staffed and stocked during Pope Francis’s visit to Philadelphia this weekend. Now, thanks to a handy infographic just released by Penn Medicine, we have answers — right down to the pounds of chicken fingers (560, if you’re wondering) they’re keeping in the freezer.
Of note, some 2,000 doctors, nurses and other hospital employees will be camping out at Penn Med’s three Philly hospitals: the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania Hospital and Penn Presbyterian. The hospitals will also be setting up 32 portable showers; stocking up on 80,000 pounds of sheets, towels and blankets; and stockpiling $1.25 million worth of extra medication. They also estimate that 100 babies will be born at HUP and Pennsy this weekend.
