PA Dems Donate Democrat T-Shirts to Soup Kitchen, Congratulate Themselves

It’s been a while since we’ve taken a shot at ridiculous press releases, so we’d like to thank the Pennsylvania Democratic Party for sending us one so ridiculous that we couldn’t let it go unnoticed.

On Monday night, the Pennsylvania Democratic Party — as in the main Democratic organization in the entire state, responsible for getting out the vote in the Commonwealth for Democrats at all levels of public office — fired off a press release congratulating themselves for donating a whopping three boxes of t-shirts to Downtown Daily Bread, a 32-year-old soup kitchen for the homeless in Harrisburg (you can donate to them here). And they weren’t just any t-shirts. No, they were Democratic Party t-shirts sporting a Democratic donkey on the front.

They also sent along a couple of photos, like this one showing the benevolence in action:

Here’s the full press release, which they also shared on the Pennsylvania State Democratic Party Facebook page with a note that they were “feeling generous”:

Today, the Pennsylvania State Democratic Party donated three boxes of T-shirts to their neighbor Downtown Daily Bread. Downtown Daily Bread is a soup kitchen that provides food, showers and clean clothes to the homeless community in Harrisburg, PA. The organization has been in existence since 1983 and is housed in Boyd Memorial Center of the Pine Street Presbyterian Church.

“We see them and treat them the way we treat any of our neighbors” said Diane Bowman, Executive Director. “As the Democratic State Party, we often have supplies and materials left over from campaigns that are helpful to many in our community and we try to make sure they get to people who need them. In this case, who wouldn’t want clean new T-shirts after a shower? As an institution we try to live by our values and don’t forget them right after an election.”

The Downtown Daily Bread is currently led by Elaine Strokoff who developed the “Lunch Plus” program which provides the homeless, with clothes, haircuts, showers in addition to food. For more information on how you can help, please visit dowtowndailybread.org.

The t-shirts appear to read “I support small business,” which we’re sure is the issue at the forefront of most homeless people’s minds. PA Dem executive director Diane Bowman did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
