Local Bridal Guide: Throw a Dance Party for Your Bachelorette at One of These 5 Philly Studios
A few years back, when Philly Mag’s lovely lifestyle editor also had a weekly PW column called Diary of a Marriage, she chronicled a weekend spent in Boston at the pole-dancing bachelorette party of one of her college roommates. When it came up today, we all got a good laugh rereading her recap, but that mostly had to do with her struggle with the pole—the class itself sounded like loads of fun! (And indeed, she has always said it was a blast.)
And because we know of other ladies here in Philly who have enjoyed a bachelorette party centered around a class of this sort, we decided to round up for you a few local places that we know do this well. Whether you gather your best girls for cocktails before, head out to a nice dinner afterwards or bring your favorite snacks and a bottle of bubbly to the dance studio with you (or, you know, all three), there are plenty of ways to incorporate these fun workouts into your bachelorette plans.
Here in Philly, there are a handful of places where you and your ‘maids can bust a move, all while keeping in the spirit of your last night out as a single lady. Take a look at the ones we’ve singled out below.
Fit & Fab Studios
Where: 219 Cuthbert Street, 3rd Floor, Old City
What: If an evening of burlesque dancing sounds exciting for your bachelorette, you’ll want to chat with seasoned veteran The Luvely Rae. Her Shimmy Soiree package is ideal for groups of 8-10 who want to have a go at basic burlesque moves while snacking on cupcakes, chocolate and plenty of champagne. This 90-minute offering goes down in the studio, but you the Fit & Fab team can also come to you for one of their hour-long Sex Ed Home School classes (you’ll learn dance moves and a short routine all in the comfort of your home). Both options cost $250.
Flaunt Fitness
Where: 1939 South 17th Street, South Philly
What: Lauren “Pinki” Schiavo’s South Philly studio is ready with all of the amenities for a perfect bachelorette party. You’ll want to opt for the $350, two hour private session which includes two instructors who will school you in pole work and chair dancing, a complimentary bottle of champagne and a penis- or square-shaped cake with your choice of flavor. Each of your guests will receive a free class pass for the future and you’re welcome to bring your own food, drinks and decorations (one hour parties are also available).
Philly Dance Fitness
Where: 1170 South Broad Street, South Philly and 1624 South Street, Rittenhouse
What: Good luck trying to choose from variety of amazing classes offered at this Philly-favorite workout studio (Cardio bellydance! Hip Hop! Dance Party Boot Camp!). Their most popular choice for bachelorettes is striptease aerobics, but they’ll customize your party to suit your group’s preferences. Classes last anywhere from an hour and a half to three hours and they’ll provide champagne to sip while dance. Parties start at $230 for up to 10 participants.
Ploome
Where: 1040 North American Street, Suite 1001, Northern Liberties
What: This NoLibs Pilates and fitness studio is known for their exciting lineup of unique, super-fun classes, but you’ll want to take advantage of their Fit ‘n Fab Private Parties—customized sessions for you and your ‘maids that can include any of their workouts (we suggest the Going Gaga cardio barre workout). Contact the Ploome crew to get details about rates and booking.
Pole Haus
Where: 1719 Chestnut Street, Suite 401, Rittenhouse
What: This bright, modern pole dance studio looks just as relaxing as your favorite yoga spot, and the team here, led by Jules Corrado, is all about empowerment and self esteem. No experience is necessary for their fun-filled private parties, where you’ll learn choreography and a handful of pole tricks before putting it all together into a fantastic little routine. The basic one hour party package is $25 per person with a minimum of five people.
