Why we loved it then: “This Erdenheim, PA, home was originally a Pennsylvania Dutch Bank barn built around 1900. The current owners chose to renovate and reinvent [it] with architect Terence Woods. In the stone-walled great room is a 30-foot stone fireplace and a loft overlooking the area. Exposed beams and timber framing are distributed here and there throughout the home, as are custom iron railings, and flooring consisting of wide-plank cypress and radiant heating. ”
Status: Sold in August.
Chester – 605 Buck Run Rd, East Fallowfield, PA, 19320
Why we loved it then: “The estate is viable as a working farm or horse facility. Although, if the idea really doesn’t appeal to you, it’s perfectly fine remaining non-operative. It includes a bank barn, springhouse, and spring fed pond. Details inside the fieldstone house include exposed stone walls, wood flooring, and a kitchen with custom-built cherry cabinets. An office and library with built-in shelves serve as additional rooms.”
Status: Still on the market for $2.45 million.
Bucks – 2103 Street Road, New Hope, PA, 18938
Why we loved it then: “Features deserving mention are its theater room, custom-built bar, original and remastered Mercer tile stack, and barn doors dating back 300 years. The rest of the estate encompasses a pole barn garage, outdoor entertainment areas, heated swimming pool, pond, and separate Victorian guest home.”
Status: On the market for $3,795,000.
Delco – Colonial-Era Farmhouse in Chester Heights
Why we loved it then: Property’s Shannon Rooney and Laura Kicey teamed up to profile this Delaware County gem, which owners Erin Chocran and her husband made their own personal project: “[The owners] reoriented the home so that the front entrance is through the front porch and drew the three separate areas of the home together. The effect is serene with a nod to the home’s past. ‘We wanted to be respectful of its history,’ Cochran said.”

Why we loved it then: “Seldom do “resort-style” properties offer the warmth of home, but this is an exception. Situated on a fresh 17-acre lot neighboring a 1,000-acre state park, the property has extensive woodwork, including vintage beams in the great room. There’s also a wooden loft area with two cozy bedrooms. The three-story silo has a spa bathroom for one of the two master suites.”

Why we loved it then: “Situated on 70 acres, the property boasts four pastures, 10-stall barn, 3-bay run-in shed, and a hay barn with open bays for storage (one closed bay is used as a shop). There are also turnout areas and a 21-acre parcel that be can be sold separately. The home itself has custom timber work and a staircase designed by a local carpenter.”

Why we loved it then: “There are multiple spaces suited to showcasing artwork throughout this New Hope home, but none more so than the blank expanses in the artist’s studio. The residence, which was once a barn built in 1814, now enjoys life as a six-bedroom property with a slew of attractive appointments: central floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace (which can be seen from most of the rooms), exposed wooden and steel beams, pine floors, high ceilings, and track lighting. There’s also a wet bar.”

Why we loved it then: “This 19th-century West Chester farmhouse has a lot to love, including a rustic kitchen hearth (above), extensive woodwork, woodburning stoves, cast iron tubs and a restored stone bank barn used for entertaining and athletics. Renovated from top to bottom in 2009, the home’s custom kitchen has cabinetry by Goebel and appliances by Thermador and Sub Zero.”
