Sixers Actually Win Game
The Philadelphia 76ers have hurt their chances at the No. 1 overall draft pick for the first time this season. After losing their first 17 games of the season, the 76ers won their first on Wednesday night. The win means the Sixers avoid tying the Nets for the worst start in NBA history. It’s the little things.
Michael Carter-Williams led the way for the Sixers in their 85-77 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves with 20 points, 9 rebounds and 9 assists. But it was K.J. McDaniels whose name will be forever etched into the Sixers records books: His three-pointer with two minutes left gave the Sixers the lead for good.
Things weren’t easy: Last night’s game actually had to be restarted 16 seconds after tip-off when the officials discovered the two teams were shooting at the wrong baskets. This is the kind of weird error no one has ever seen in basketball until the 2014-15 Philadelphia 76ers. They just make history all the time.
The Sixers led by as many as 12 in the first half, but the Timberwolves closed the second quarter on a 15-3 run to take a two-point edge at halftime. Former Sixer Thaddeus Young led the T-Wolves with 16 points.
For Philly, Robert Covington — who wasn’t even on the team at the start of the season — had 17, including a late three-pointer. McDaniels, a promising second-round rookie, had 12 points and 9 rebounds.
Can they make it two in a row? Kevin Durant, freshly returned from injury, and the Oklahoma City Thunder play the 76ers at the Wells Fargo Center on Friday night.
