Top-Seeded Villanova Knocked Out of Big East Tournament on Buzzer Beater

Seton Hall's Sterling Gibbs hit a step-back jumper to eliminate Wildcats.

Villanova came into today’s Big East Tournament game against Seton Hall as heavy favorites. The Wildcats were 28-3, ranked No. 3 in the country and were heavily-favored against 16-16 Seton Hall.

The Pirates — yes, there is a university in New Jersey nicknamed this — jumped out to a 30-15 lead. But Villanova went on a 16-0 run in the second half and eventually took the lead on a jumper with 11 seconds left.

Sterling Gibbs’ step-back jumper handed ‘Nova its fourth loss of the season. “We kind of messed up the play,” he told Fox Sports 1 afterward.

Villanova will still get a high seed in the NCAA tournament, likely a No. 2. Who knows, the loss to Seton Hall could drop them to a No. 3. The bracket is announced on Sunday (and then you can get to gambling).
