Valley Forge Flowers To Open 7,000-Square-Foot Addition, The Barn
Just over two years after sizing up to a new space, Valley Forge Flowers will be expanding yet again. Once we get past this deep-freeze, the Main Line floral haven will be breaking ground on a 7,000-square-foot addition, The Barn, slated to open on Labor Day.
Barbara King, owner and third-generation gardening aficionada, says they’re repurposing an existing footprint only 20 steps away from the current building (which we confirmed they’re staying in), to create a two-and-a-half story barn. The eco-friendly space will house a cafe, where shoppers can score Capogiro gelato, Belgian waffles made with imported dough, and coffee-shop standards (java, tea and pastries).
The main difference from the old space is that The Barn’s focus will on outdoor lifestyle. Staff will be on hand to assist with creating outdoor spaces that span the seasons. Floral, planting and cooking workshops and demonstrations held by locals and renowned chefs (in the sparkly new commercial-grade kitchen) will also be held at least weekly. Bonus: We got word that King’s father, a florist himself, will be doing a workshop on Jackie O’s favorite floral arrangement (from when he serviced her penthouse). Sign us up for that, stat.
King says the space will be designed for shoppers to stay a while. Our suggestion? Snag yourself a Belgian waffle and start drafting those plans for an outdoor living room.
