The Cost of Banning Same-Sex Marriage

In the U.S., as many as 70,000 gay couples are married, and 90,000 have entered into a civil union or domestic partnership. But in most states (including Pennsylvania), gays and lesbians are unable to enjoy legally recognized relationships. And thanks to the shadow DOMA still casts, even in states that do allow same-sex marriage, the federal government still doesn’t recognize the unions. We’ll never forgive you for that, former President Bill Clinton (believe it or not, he’s the guy who signed DOMA into law in 1996).

But according to TakePart.com, prohibiting same-sex couples from marriage is actually bad business. In this day and age, can we (or our checkbooks) really afford to be guided by hate?
