Philadelphia Area Takes Time to Remember 9/11. Yesterday was the 10th anniversary of the heinous attacks of September 11th, 2001. This weekend, people all across America paid tribute to the heroes of that day and took time to remember those lost. For locals, that might have meant a candlelight prayer vigil in Roxborough, unveiling a new memorial in Glouco, opening doors in Pottstown, reflecting in a Bucks County Garden, or heading to Shanksville with Michael Smerconish for the dedication of a Flight 93 memorial. Eagles Start Season 1-0 With a Win Over the Rams. Michael Vick threw for 187 yards and two touchdowns while running for an additional 98. LeSean McCoy took 15 rushes for 122 yards and a score and added a receiving touchdown. The Birds won 31-13 over a St. Louis team saddled with multiple injuries to key players throughout the contest. City Council Weighs Corporate Tax Proposals. City Council is considering two bills this fall that will aim to alleviate the burden of taxes on local businesses in the wake of a tumultuous economy and poor job market. One bill is designed to reward businesses with tax breaks if they employ 10 or more people while the other would offer exemption on the first $100,000 earned by each business. [CBS 3]
Phils Can’t Find a Way to Sweep the Brewers. The Phillies dropped a close matinee in the finale of their series with the Brewers yesterday as a Nyjer Morgan double in the seventh inning—followed by a Ryan Braun single—helped the Brewers top a good outing from Vance Worley and home runs from Shane-o and Ryan Howard. Traveling Out to KOP Will Soon Be a Cinch. PennDOT is just about ready to unveil its new off-ramp on the westbound side of the Schuylkill between Gulf Mills and Route 202. The ramp is the first major addition of its kind since 1991 and should make life a little easier for people traveling in or around the King of Prussia area. [CBS 3]
Mother and Son Reunited in Lansdale After 12 Years. Twelve years ago—when her son Jared was five years old—Kattia Liebers had him taken from her in Costa Rica in the midst of a nasty custody battle. More than a decade later, Liebers—who now lives in Montgomery County—received a Facebook message from the son she hadn’t seen since he was a toddler. Now, after being reunited in Montco, Jared will enroll in North Penn High School and be able to spend some time catching up with the mother he hasn’t seen for most of his life. [FOX 29]
