Where to Watch the Election Returns
Pickings are slim for election night watch parties, probably because most of us will be at home hiding under the covers, waiting for this all to be over. But if you’d prefer to be surrounded by people, drink in hand, when the race is called, Philadelphia 3.0, Philadelphia Citizen, Influencing Action Movement and Committee of Seventy are hosting an election returns watch party at the new City Diner at Broad and South streets, starting at 8 p.m. The $5 cover includes bar snacks.
Or head to Revolutions at Penn Treaty, the new entertainment venue in Fishtown next to the Fillmore, where the candidate-themed happy hour specials will start at 5 p.m. From 8 p.m. until we can’t take it anymore, the 6-foot HDTV projection screens in the Flair Street flair bar/club/bowling alley will all show election coverage, with MSNBC on the left screen, FOX News on the right, and CNN in the middle.
The Collaborative, a group for Jews in their 20s and 30s (though non-Jews are always welcome), will be watching the returns at a White House Takeover shindig at Tavern on Broad, at Broad and Walnut. It starts at 7 p.m. and there will be drink specials.
La Peg at the FringeArts building on the waterfront (140 N. Columbus Blvd.) will be showing election commentary on the big screen in the theater, complemented by cocktail, beer and bar snack specials all night.
If you can handle both election night and college kids, the Penn Democrats will be gathered at Cavanaugh’s University City (119 S. 39th St.), starting at 8 p.m.
Earlier in the evening, the Raven Society and the Free Library of Philadelphia are throwing an Election Night Kickoff Party at the Parkway Central Library, in the Skyline Room. It goes from 5:30 to 8 p.m. and your $15 ticket includes an open bar and hors d’oeuvres.
Stop by Brauhaus Schmitz (718 South St.) or sister restaurant Whetstone Tavern (5th and Bainbridge) anytime on Tuesday and show off your “I Voted” sticker to get a free Traunstein Oktoberfest beer. Show your sticker at The Baker’s Jar, at 16th and Bainbridge, to get a free chocolate chip cookie.
