Ask the Expert: When Should I Hand Out Tips to Our Vendors?

Question: Should vendor tips be handed out the night of the wedding or sent in afterward? And by whom?
Answer: If you’re working with a wedding planner, he or she should distribute vendor tips at the end of the party, says Jaclyn Fisher, owner of Haddonfield’s Two Little Bird’s Planning: “They stay until the end of the night, and all of the vendors check in with the planner before they leave.”
If you don’t have a planner, Fisher recommends assigning the job to a responsible family member or friend, and preparing the gratuities in sealed, labeled envelopes a week or two prior to the wedding, so it’s one less thing on your mind in the busy days before the Big Day. “A heartfelt, handwritten thank-you note for those vendors who went above and beyond is appreciated, too.”
