My Best Friend’s Wedding is Getting a Sequel—As a TV Show

Let’s admit it: Julia Roberts’ 1997 hit My Best Friend’s Wedding is one of those movies that no matter how many times you’ve seen it, you can’t help but stop and watch every time it’s on TV. It’s definitely one of the best, as far as wedding-related movies go, and clearly it still has an impact 18 (!) years later: ABC just announced that it’s developing a comedy series based on the film.

The new show will pick up post-wedding, and will follow the New York City adventures of Robert’s character Julianne and her best friend George. No word yet on whether Michael and Kimmy will make an appearance (is anyone else curious whether or not their marriage lasted?), but we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for more details and a release date.
