City Councilwoman’s Car Stolen After She Likely Left Her Keys in It

Philadelphia City Councilwoman Blondell Reynolds Brown has a city-owned car, a 2008 Ford. Or, rather: She had a city-owned car, until someone stole it from her Wynnefield home.
Police said the car was apparently unlocked and had the keys left in it. It was eventually found — along with a backpack filled with drugs — in Upper Darby, according to police there. Three suspects have been arrested.
The Philadelphia Daily News couldn’t get a comment from the “distraught” Brown, but the paper did get a statement:
On Sunday morning, August 9, I discovered that the vehicle, which was parked outside my home, was missing. I immediately called the Office of Fleet Management and 9-1-1 to report the vehicle stolen. The officers of the 19th Police District and Southwest Detectives acted in a professional, courteous and thorough manner, and were able to locate the vehicle.
It just shows that no one is exempt from random acts of crime across our city. I am particularly sad to hear that young people were involved. I hope this serves as a wake-up call to them and their parents.
Upper Darby police say the arrested trio, two from Philadelphia and one from Montgomery County, are also wanted in an August 8th car theft in Upper Darby. That car was found in Philadelphia.
