Clementon Park Party Gets Wild, Park Apologizes

It was promoted by Power 99 DJ Doc B who says it was an "adult event" and that it's being blown out of proportion.

Normally, South Jersey’s Clementon Park is a peaceful, fun place to be for families. OK, that’s not actually true (I’ve been there a few times in the last several years and it is even more rambunctious than Six Flags Great Adventure on a Saturday in the summer), but last Saturday’s Summer Splash party at Clementon Park definitely raised (lowered?) the bar for misbehavior there.

Thanks to that wonderful 21st Century development called Instagram, we have a record of what happened on Saturday’s private party at Clementon Park.

We haven’t had a good reason to use the word “twerking” since 2014, so here are some gals doing some admittedly unimpressive twerking in the same pool that your kids will (or, more likely, will not) be using this season:

And then there was the grinding and other decidedly adult behavior in a pool:

And, really, what’s a little pre-summer twerking-filled get-together without a fight?

Naturally, once word of the wild party at Clementon Park leaked out, there were complaints. Some people took to the Clementon Park Facebook and other social media platforms to vent:

I have purchased a pass last year and was considering doing it again this year untill I seen stuff posted on Internet after what happened I would be embarrassed to say I was there…..it’s a shame cause of course the money opportunity seemed great to rent out park but owners should have investigated more ….and should have still upheld some sort of dress code. ..despite there being no children there your staff are young adults to be exposed is ridiculous. .. party should have been shut down! Now park is scrambling to regain some dignity …you should see pictures going around facebook…I think you will have to drop those pass prices to even try to regain customers

AND YOU WONDER WHY PEOPLE WON’T GO TO CLEMENTON PARK I HAD BOUGHT TICKETS BUT AFTER SEEING THIS DISGRACE WHERE YOU HAVE MULTIPLE PEOPLE PULLING DOWN A FEMALE BOTTOM’S THEN ANOTHER FEMALE SITTING ON ANOTHER FEMALE’S FACE YEAH CLEMENTON YOU JUST LOST ALOT OF BUSINESS ‪#‎DISGRACEFUL‬ ‪#‎BYECLEMENTON‬

Others, however, wondered what the big deal was (via Facebook):

Why is everybody blaming the park? They booked it for a private party like they do for anyone else. They did not know that that was going to happen.

If it was a “Private Party,” then I don’t understand what’s the problem. Was any of the park’s equipment damaged? Where any of the employees hurt? Maybe I didn’t see all of the videos and I missed something. Only video I saw was a bunch of adults having a Adult Party. Again, maybe its some video I haven’t seen, but based off what I have seen so far, I don’t see any problems.

Meanwhile, Clementon Park has issued an apology on Facebook:

Clementon Park opens to the public for its 108th season on Friday, May 22, 2015. A private company purchased the use of our park last weekend for an adult only fundraising event. Our park will not be the location for this event in the future, or any such event, as the behaviors exhibited will not be tolerated at Clementon Park where our goal is to provide guests with a wholesome, entertainment experience.

Management at Clementon Park hasn’t responded to our request for further comment about the event and the reaction to it.

The ticket page for the party, where partygoers paid $40 for the pleasure of attending, bears a logo for “Sickle-Cell Anemia Awareness,” and all questions about tickets were to be directed to Power 99FM’s popular DJ Doc B, who posted plenty about the party via his Twitter account.

“I was hired as DJ and promoter and that’s it,” says Doc B. “I know nothing about the sickle-cell awareness thing, and I really don’t have a comment.”

He also didn’t want to say who hired him.

“I really don’t want to get into that,” he responded when we asked whose party it was. “I’m sure Clementon Park has that paperwork. But social media has blown this into something bigger than it was. It was an adult event.”
