Because rainy barbecues are no fun.

With Hurricane Joaquin bearing down on the East Coast, Friday afternoon looks like a pretty horrible time to throw a barbecue. So the techies and startup folks have decided to reschedule the N3rd Street Birthday Party scheduled for 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Liberty Lands Park.

The new date is Saturday Oct. 24 from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Liberty Lands.

The slice of 3rd Street between Girard and Market Streets in Old City and Northern Liberties has been increasingly adding tech companies and startups — and the city officially awarded it the moniker N3rd Street (a play on the word “nerd”) one year ago. That meant new street signs and increased interest in the tech community by City Hall.

The birthday bash will feature fundraising for the N3rd Street Initiative which aims to create micro-grants for Code for Philly developers to build software tools; build a free “N3rd Street Wifit Network” with Bamboowifi; and support local community centers, parks departments and cleaning efforts and after-school programs.

Here’s just some of the companies that call N3rd Street home: Jarvus InnovationsSEER Interactive, Indy Hall, Wildbit and Weblinc.
