Sports blogger wins The Hookup
Philly sports fans know CrossingBroad.com for its hilarious yet insightful blog posts. They speak to the 20- and 30-something Philadelphia fan: jaded, critical and super-into-it.
It’s run by Kyle Scott, a guy who spent time in marketing before diving head-first into his own sports blog. Almost six years later, the 31-year-old has a serious following with 300,000 monthly unique visitors, 1.4 million impressions and more than 27,000 Twitter followers. In a media landscape where so many sports blogs come and go, Scott is a legitimate success.
But everyone needs advice and mentorship. So Scott entered BizPhilly‘s first-ever contest called The Hookup — where we pair a young entrepreneur with someone who’s had serious success.
Our first mentor is Jim Cramer, host of CNBC’s Mad Money. But more importantly, Cramer is co-founder of TheStreet.com and should have personal insight into the trials and tribulations of starting your own site and gaining a following.
Scott plans to ask Cramer about expanding the site to include news, politics, business and entertainment stories. Think a local version of Gawker. But how can Scott do it without much manpower or startup capital?
Check BizPhilly soon for a story about the mentorship meet up and what takeaways Scott will be bringing back to his business.
