Philly’s New Bagel Truck Schmear It Has Gluten-Free Bagels, Vegan Options
Our friends over at Foobooz posted about Philly’s brand-spanking-new bagel truck, Schmear It, yesterday, but in case it escaped your attention, I wanted to bring two little items to your attention: 1) that Schmear It offers vegan (i.e. dairy-free) schmear options, and 2) that Schmear It also offers gluten-free bagels. Woot! (Note to celiacs: I cannot speak to cross-contamination issues. I’ve asked and am waiting to hear back. I’ll update this post when I do.)
More than just plain ol’ cream cheese on a bagel, this truck offers bagel sandwiches, of which you may choose between one of their creations (i.e. the Loxsmith, with cream cheese, chopped lox, scallions, tomatoes and cucumbers) or one of your own. You can build a bagel sandwich out of a range of ingredients, from fresh fruit to nuts to wasabi. And yes, even Sriracha.
Here’s something else to feel good about: In addition to meeting your bagel-and-schmear needs, the truck doubles as a fundraising effort for local causes. Each week, the truck will feature a different nonprofit, which will receive a portion of that week’s profits. You can nominate a good cause here.
The truck made its debut appearance last week near the Whole Foods Callowhill in Fairmount, but you’ll soon be able to spot it at 33rd and Arch, Love Park, The Porch and the Navy Yard. Track its whereabouts on Facebook and Twitter.
